Review

I picked this up from my local The Body Shop outlet without reading any prior review or thread on it. The little transparent round plastic facial brush was too cute to resist! They have a sample of it available at store and I tried it on the back of my hand - the bristles seemed nice and firm against my skin, nothing harsh so I purchased it. Biggest mistake probably! If a product is meant to be used on face, try it on face not on hand baby, learnt my lesson!

The nylon bristles are way to coarse to be used regularly on face, specially if you have sensitive skin. I got skin rash after the first use, maybe my skin was too sensitive or I used it really hard like to really really exfoliate hah! I hated the overall experience and tossed it away to a dark corner of my drawer, out of my sight. Few weeks ago, while arranging my makeup I saw it again and thought to give it another try. This time I used it with Ponds' No Bleak Head Facial Cleanser and I really loved the results. Squeaky clean skin!

The key is to use this brush really really gently. The size of the brush is tiny hence it acually fits perfectly to the contours of face. I usually wash my face with plain water, dot my face wash with fingers all over my face, moist the bristles of the brush and then massage it on my face gently in circular motion for not more than 60 seconds. Then I rinse my face, pat it dry with a soft towel and apply my toner. I usually use it only once a week. Using it on a daily basis isn't an ideal thing since frankly its way to harsh for daily use.

I wouldn't suggest using it with your exfoliator since it's already abrasive. I tried using it with a cleanser and didn't like that either, I prefer it to use with a facial wash since it lathers up nicely and you get all the procedure done within 60 seconds. I'd also suggest to always always use a toner afterwards since exfoliating your skin with the body shop facial brush really unclog your pores, removing all dirt and impurities so a nice toner afterwards will actually soothe your skin and shrink your pores.

I really like that this facial brush comes with a lid, well thought the body shop! The lid fits perfectly onto the brush and is ideal for saving the bristles from catching any bacteria and stuff. The small size is ideal for travelling and fits perfectly in my small toiletry bag.

Summing up, I'm not really wowed by The Body Shop Facial Brush, the bristles are way to hard to use daily so I definitely will be looking around for a more gentle alternative before I could get myself one of those luxurious cleansing systems. I heard Coastal Scents makes one too, let's see.

  5. I agree with Shehrzad. Clarisonic does not come second to anything. If you still want to take a step towards the whole cleansing device thing - Olay Pro-X is nicer.

    1. Hey Bia, I didn't expect it to perform like clarisonic but only as an option better than my fingers. Olay Pro X is in my new year wishlist, let's seen when I get it. x
